Training day 3: Measurement and afternoon sailing

Today, lunchtime, it was Switzerland’s turn to measure the boats. Sailing before lunch was not an option and therefore the coach went through some theory (in the shade!) to help explain a very difficult race area. The unpredictably shifty and gusty winds, and a strong current of up to 3 knots put high demands upon our 5 sailors.

At lunch we were able to start the measurement before schedule (!), but only after telling them for the 15th time that Kiktor actually prefers being called Victor. Thanks to some flirting from our coach with the measurement lady, even the outdated sail measurement letter of Kilian managed to pass the and we were out of there in no time.

Luckily the very unpromising wind forecast proofed to be wrong and a beautiful 12 – 15 knots blew across the bay. On the water, Team Switzerland tried determining the racing areas favorable side, but came to no real conclusion. After some practice races with some other nations, including amongst others France, Greece, Germany, Italy, Austria and Slovenia, the middle showed to be the safest bet under these wind conditions.

GOOD NEWS OF THE DAY: The bright pink coolingbox from our duty-free shop next door does an excellent job keeping the water cold.

GNOTD 2: The support boat is worlds better than the one last year in Niterói
